"In 2016, we are hiring about 500 people in Hong Kong. The majority of our recruitment comes from assurance but also tax, consulting, deals and risk assurance. Demands for talents span across different specializations and industries," said Rocco Li who is responsible for campus recruitment. Every year, he goes into every college and university to hire fresh graduates for the accounting firm.
During September and October each year, the firm sends out invitation of an online aptitude test which contains three sections. The purpose is to evaluate applicants' logical reasoning, verbal and numerical reasoning, English language skills and personality/cultural fit. After passing the technical test stage, here comes the interview section between October and November.
"We host one round of interview only."
"We host one round of interview only." Rocco suggests that university students should just "be themselves" in the interview. Superday, the single-round interview, is not lateral but interactive. "We want to understand the applicants more, and the applicants need to understand our culture and values."
On the day of interview, applicants will be assigned a series of business simulation tasks including group discussion and individual presentation. They will have a chance to have lunch and exchange with senior staff. This is to create more chances for bilateral communication. Firms usually confirm job offers in November and December.
"If you major in Accounting or related subjects, congratulations, your last summer will be relatively relaxing. Non-business major graduates will need to take a three-month Conversion Program to learn accounting knowledge and skills." He highlights that freshmen usually spend the first two to three years to work on obtaining accountant certification. Every summer is filled with study and mock examinations.
