Public Relations (PR)
PR plays an important role in building positive corporate image and relationship with external parties. PR specialists act as the key contact persons and spokespersons in corporate affairs. They need to maintain good media relations, monitor companies’ public exposure, and manage sensitive issues, breaking events and corporate crisis.
The routine work of PR covers preparing external campaign materials (e.g. announcements, press releases, newsletters, speeches and Q&A scripts), handling print and multimedia production projects (e.g. annual report and website) as well as organizing press conferences and corporate events. Often they work closely with marketing and other communications teams to ensure the disclosures are in line with each other.
Investor Relations (IR)
IR specialists within the listed companies are responsible for keeping investors (e.g. portfolio managers and equity analysts) well informed about the latest financial data and company news which may affect shareholders’ interest and stock prices. They regularly conduct conferences, roadshows as well as company visits. They also handle investor enquiries and provide feedback on daily basis.
IR specialists are expected to prepare announcements, financial reports, presentations and Q&A scripts for senior management and investors. Also, to keep management updated with the market developments, specialists have to stay alerted on industry news and media coverage of the company. Often they work closely with finance and other communications teams.
